The Venturi Blade Fence
A Patent Pending Blade Technology that Increases Lift by Accelerating Flow Through Venturi Channels
Venturi Blade Fence technology features extruded symmetrical airfoil structures that guide flow between them, creating a low pressure venturi effect.
How it Works
As the moving fluid flows over the blade’s leading edge, it quickly splits and is directed between the Venturi Blade Fences. These curved, airfoil-shaped fences compact the flow on the suction side of the blade, increasing its velocity and thereby generating greater lift. As the flow exits the venturi channel near the trailing edge, it is deliberately decelerated to raise the static pressure — reducing wake losses and improving overall efficiency.
The symmetrical airfoil profile of the Venturi Blade Fence ensures smooth acceleration of the flow while minimizing drag. This optimized geometry allows for significant aerodynamic gains without the penalty of significant added resistance.
Unlike traditional wing fences — which are flat, vertical surfaces designed mainly to reduce crossflow and boundary layer separation — Venturi Blade Fences, which also reap those benefits, introduce a fundamentally new aerodynamic approach. By accelerating the fluid through higher-velocity flow pathways, they achieve greater lift forces over a smaller blade section. In addition, the upper surfaces of the fences themselves generate lift, contributing further to overall performance.
To reduce tip losses, the fences taper off toward the blade tips, with a halved top profile that mitigates pressure leakage and vortex formation. This final design detail significantly enhances the blade’s aerodynamic efficiency, especially in high Reynolds number applications.
